The importance of coaching

On the job coaching is a critical skill for all effective people managers. If we want heightened levels of performance and productivity, people have to be given individual attention and development. In real life situations - the most effective person to give this kind of focussed attention is a line manager.

But how many line managers are truly effective at coaching people? How many really consider it a critical part of their working day in the same way as opening and closing their department? We think it's sadly only a handful.

We know that organisations who encourage line managers to share their knowledge and expertise by coaching others are more effective. Knowledge levels are increased, communication improved and deeper trusting relationships built.

We believe that people are individuals and learn in very personal ways, and that effective line management coaching needs to have flexibility and scope if it is to be really successful.

Developing your ability to coach

During this three hour session, we offer participants the opportunity to acquire this core line management skill. To build on their existing skills, and to explore new ideas and techniques.

We talk about learning, and acknowledge the impact of the different ways in which people like to learn how to do things. We also look at the challenges of supporting people going through a learning curve, and the rewards that come from supporting an individual in coming out the other side.

We offer participants a framework to enable them to choose the correct style of coaching for people and situations, and offer the opportunity for people to practise and receive immediate feedback.

How we help you succeed

We know the transfer and application of learning is critical to success. Therefore participants will be asked to complete activities both before and after their Motion Lite session to embed their learning.

We will offer further support by guiding participants' line managers on how to follow up the session ideas.
